At the opening of my solo exhibition the 99 individual works making up the People Matter project will be given away individually to those in attendance. By giving these works away the night of the opening I hope to act symbolically in the spirit of gift exchange. I do not promise these gifts are uninfected. But they are in fact free. I offer them as drift wood, as kindling, as structurally solid bricks looking for mortar. I hope you’ll use them to build off of in some meaningful way. To each their own.
I will ask that each participant allow me to take their photograph with the work they receive, as well as exchange an email address. I will post and document the photograph on this site. The email address will be kept private and used for communication between members of this gift community. Beyond this I have no other conditions—all other participation in gift actions will be voluntary.
Join in. Let’s build something grand, wicked, and true. Or let’s fail with tremendous style. I hope you will.
